Consumers Energy is once again donating money to help Michigan residents stay warm this winter as they are using more natural gas to heat their homes. The Jackson-based utility announced Thursday, Feb. 27, it is donating $3 million in grants to three statewide nonprofits: TrueNorth Community Services, The Salvation Army and The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW). These nonprofits will give out $2 million to help income-qualified customers stay up to date on their energy bills. The other $1 million will be used to expand THAW’s initiatives, including a pilot program that helps low-income residents reduce their energy usage and better manage those expenses.
